Why do Map Center maps have a different look and feel from other internet maps?

The Map Center development team spent a great deal of time and effort to make Map Center maps of cartographic quality. We selected map colors and text fonts to make the maps easy to read and visually appealing. We placed feature labels by hand to avoid overlapping text or crowding of labels.

Teachers and students are Map Center's intended audience. We hope that the esthetic quality of Map Center maps will encourage students to have an increased interest and appreciation for all high quality maps. Teachers will hopefully use Map Center in conjunction with globes, topographic maps, and other interactive internet maps.
